Newsweek’s Evan Thomas: Obama Is ‘Sort of God’

France gets its Obama moment
PARIS (AP) — People gawked and cameras clicked as the Obamas cut a wide figure through the French capital even while confined to a presidential motorcade. It was more personal for the few kept not so distant — the restaurant owner who "saw God," the chauffeur reveling in a "magnificent mission."
...
"I saw God before me," he said, "because I saw this smile that a million people have seen around the world. I saw her (Michelle) radiant. ... It's idiotic, but it's like that."

Netanyahu to outline Israel's peace vision next week
Netanyahu said at the opening of Sunday's cabinet meeting that in recent days he had read and heard things attributed to him that he simply never said.

"I would like to make it clear: We want to achieve peace with the Palestinians and with the countries of the Arab world, while attempting to reach maximum understanding with the US and our friends around the world," he said. "My aspiration is to achieve a stable peace that rests on a solid foundation of security for the State of Israel and its citizens.

"Next week, I will make a major diplomatic speech in which I will present the citizens of Israel with our principles for achieving peace and security. Ahead of the speech, I intend to listen to the opinions of the coalition partners and other elements among the Israeli public."

Yossi Sucary / U.S. wrecking ball crushed Israel leaders' aspirations
It was not the American spirit that was present in the corridors of the Foreign Ministry during U.S. envoy George Mitchell's visit, but a massive iron wrecking ball manufactured by the new U.S. administration.

Whenever it headed in his direction, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman managed to dodge the ball - some might even say skillfully. Yet to do so, he had to leave his political beliefs behind. The wrecking ball did not spare them. It crushed them time and again.

But in one respect, the American wrecking ball was merciful toward Lieberman's views: It did not leave them lying there alone. It laid them to rest in a mass grave together with the rest of Israel's traditional policies and its leaders' aspirations.

Author got this part right. The rest, not so much.

US-Israel Relations Still Crumbling
Israel's Channel One TV reported that Netanyahu was told Tuesday by an "American official" in Jerusalem that, "We are going to change the world. Please, don't interfere." The report said Netanyahu's aides interpreted this as a "threat."

The message could not be any clearer: "that's a nice country you got there. It'd be a shame if something were to happen to it."

I don't even have the words to say how shameful Obama's treatment of our allies has been. But this is more horrifying than merely irritating our coalition partners; it goes beyond destroying our special relationship with the UK. Those are bad things, but this is beyond the pale. He is throwing a good people to the wolves. It sickens me.

Participants in the Caspian oil and gas forum, just held in Baku, confirmed that Turkey's Justice and Development Party (AKP) government has reverted to obstruction of the Nabucco project for Caspian gas to Europe.

The government in Ankara seemed to have adopted a more constructive position during the past two months, but has relapsed into its stalling tactics on Nabucco since the May 17 meeting of the Russian and Turkish prime ministers in Sochi. The AKP government's position threatens to delay the signing of the inter-governmental agreement on Nabucco, which had been planned for May, then June, and now faces a further postponement.
