Congo May Have Another Civil WarCBNNews.com - Fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo is threatening to plunge the country into another civil war.
There are reports of widespread rape, murder and pillaging.
The United Nations says as many as 100,000 people may be cut off in the fighting and in desperate need of aid.
Many aid organizations have already evacuated to neighboring countries due to the fighting. But Samaritan's Purse is one of the only agencies going in to the country despite the risks.
Congo war goes regionalConflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo has erupted again over the last several weeks, continuing an ongoing war that has left more than five million people dead. But now, as
many times before in Congo's rather dreary history, the region is getting sucked in.
Human Rights Watch reports today that Ugandan rebels from the Lord's Resistance Army are now
pillaging northeastern Congo.
Zimbabwean and Angolan troops are reported to be involved, too. Bravo to Angolan peacekeepers, who have
volunteered for the ongoing U.N. mission there, but the whole thing harkens ominously to the late 1990s, a time when Angolan troops supported the Congolese government against Zimbabwean and Namibian troops in country.

Why Nicaragua's Capital Is in Flames The last time rival political forces fought one another street by street for control of the Nicaraguan capital was three decades ago, in July 1979, at the culmination of the Sandinista insurrection that overthrew the Somoza dictatorship. This week, the streets of Managua were once again aflame amid the boom of mortar rounds, as the Sandinistas and their rivals battled for control — but it was the
erstwhile revolutionary movement that now stands
accused of being a dictatorship.
The prize, this time, is not control of the Nicaraguan state, but simply the mayorships in 146 municipalities, which were up for election on November 9. Zambian police arrest 38 after riotsLUSAKA (Reuters) - Zambian police arrested 38 people on Thursday after violent protests over the arrest of a priest and radio presenter in the country's second-biggest city, Kitwe, a police spokesman said.
Rioters attacked a police station, caused damage at a milling company, barricaded streets and set cars alight in Kitwe, 350 km (219 miles) north of Lusaka.
Top Italy G8 riot police cleared The most senior police officials charged in connection with the handling of riots at the G8 summit in Genoa, Italy, in 2001 have been cleared.
A court in the northern Italian city sentenced 13 officers to prison and acquitted another 16.
There were cries of "shame" from the public as the acquittal of the police chief was announced.
The clashes were some of the worst in the summit's history. One protester died and hundreds of people were hurt.
Report: Pirates holding Chinese ship, crew of 24(CNN) -- Somali pirates were holding the crew of a Chinese fishing vessel Friday, hours after hijacking the ship in the fourth reported pirate attack in the region this week, according to a media report.
All 24 crew members were fine, according to China's state-run Xinhua news agency, which quoted a pirate leader who had spoken to a radio station in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.
